Please understand I am only a novice beer drinker. I have found having a knowledge of the beer before tasting it helps me to enjoy it more fully. As well as helping me to write a more comprehensive reveiw. This is only my personal opinion and nothing more. Upon saying that I have posted the website for each beer, if available, with each post. But I do hope it helps you to find what you are looking for with a litte more ease!
Samuel Adams Octoberfest
(August 28, 2011)
After you pop open this delicious beer, allow it to settle and warm just a tad before taking that first sip! Take a deep wiff of the smell of it. You're able to smell "Octorber" bottled up! Even just through the nose you can tell this beer will go down nice and smooth. That first taste will surprise you with the silky smoothness of it. Then the taste will surprise you. Can't figure out what it is that you are tasting? Believe it or not, they use caramel and toffee. To balance out the sweetness of this duo they use Bavarian Noble Hops. The bitterness of the hops combined with the "sweetness" of the sweet duo is perfect for the average beer drinker who is looking for something special. Also great for the Beginner Beer Drinker!
Magic Hat Hex Ourtoberfest
(September 4, 2011)
The sound of the top popping is only part of the fun! Remember to look under the cap for a fun phrase! The scent is just the tip of the iceberg of the flavor to come! Rich and full, The scent is full of a rich caramel! No this beer isn't sweet, but the layers of flavor are well blended. The first sip takes you through the flavor of Caramel. Leading only to the light body of this beer. There are an assortment of light spices to taste ending perfectly on a slightly more bitter note. As the beer warms the flavors become more evident. The smoothness of the carmel sits well upon the palat between sips of this delicious beer.
I was surprised to say the least when I popped the top off this one! The light clean smell of this beer was refreshing! Then to have my senses snuck up upon, from behind to say the least!!! By the delicious scent of fresh pumkin. A very subtle note to tantilize your senses! My mouth was watering as I was waiting for the Terrapin site to load! So instead of reading up on the beer first as I enjoy doing....down the hatch it went! The taste was so smooth at first that the balancing bitter note took me by surprise. THEN the ending note of fresh pumpkin...delicious! What was even better that as this beer warms up in your hand, the decadant flavors of fall begin to fill your mouth preparing it for the next sip. smooth cinnamon, allspice, ginger and cloves. Deffinitely one for the books!!!
